Sustainable Fish and You



Roughly 80% of the planet's fish stocks have been nearly depleted, due primarily to overfishing. Some stocks are being fished at capacity, meaning that any further growth in demand will crash them. Others have collapsed or are in decline.

Big, predatory fish, like cod, halibut and tuna, are being fished to the brink of extinction, their numbers having plummeted by 90% since 1950.

As reported by Coney Island blog Amusing the Zillion, McCullough's Kiddie Park, on 12th Street in Coney Island since the 1960s and the family's last remaining Coney Island business, closed in September 2012 after more than 50 years in business.

Thor Equities, the property owner, refused to extend the McCullough's lease, giving the family until the end of the year to

September 11 Commemorations



Update:

Senator Golden has scheduled a 9/11 event for Monday, September 9 at 6PM at the Cort Club, at 2648 Gerritsen Avenue in Gerritsen Beach.

At the free event, the 9/11 documentary "An American Requiem" will be screened. Recommended for adult audiences, the film features the first-hand accounts of 9/11 first responders.

Eco-Dock Construction Underway



Construction on the Eco-Dock, which will provide the community with on-water access at Bay Ridge's 69th Street Pier, is due to begin next week.

The dock is scheduled to be afloat by Tuesday, September 3 and
construction should be completed by the end of September.

Once completed, the Eco-Dock will provide a launching and mooring point for kayaks, pleasure boats, historic vessels, and other

The Widening Battle for LICH
