The New R Train Commute



I was surprised to see, at the Bay Ridge Avenue R station today, that the MTA had put up a new sign on the Manhattan-bound side saying "Court Street."

The R train is now a shuttle to downtown Brooklyn! But its shorter route doesn't seem to have translated into more frequent service.

Getting Around the Tunnel Closure



On August 3, the Metropolitan Transit Authority will close the Montague Tunnel connecting Brooklyn and lower Manhattan to repair the damage done by the Hurricane Sandy-driven storm surge that flooded the tunnel with seawater last fall.

The tunnel closure is expected to last at least 14 months, maybe
longer, meaning that Bay Ridge commuters with jobs in lower Manhattan

Riders' Alliance Rallies for R Train Backup


With the R train tunnel under the East River scheduled to close for repairs on August 1, a coalition of elected officials and Brooklyn/Queens community organizations will rally on the (plaza-side) steps at Brooklyn Borough Hall at 11 AM tomorrow, Thursday, June 27, calling for a plan for Brooklyn commuters during the 14-month closure.
