Salvation Army Flea Market





From 9:30 AM until 3 PM on Saturday, November 2, the Salvation Army -- Bay Ridge Corps, will host a Flea Market at 252 86th Street (between Ridge and 3rd Avenues) in Bay Ridge.

Admission is one quarter.

The market promises "something for everyone", with treasures old and new, featuring jewelry, linens, shoes, handbags, and a clothing boutique.

Bay Ridge AARP Chapter Meets





Bay Ridge Chapter 3630 of the American Association of Retired Persons will meet at Shore Hill Community Center, at 91st Street, between Shore Road and Colonial Road in Bay Ridge, at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, September 17.

Guest speakers will be financial adviser Patrick Gilbride and Karen Tadross, producer of Jeff Samaha's Production of "Les Miserables."

Epic Street Trash





It's everywhere: all along the Shore Road Promenade; along 3rd Avenue; in
the parking lot at Walgreen's; even on my normally clean block: street
trash. Juice cartons, empty bottles, wrapping paper, plastic utensils, takeout bags, lottery tickets, layin' in the street, piled up along the curb, in the middle
of the sidewalk, thrown down next to street trees.

"Summer Lovin'" Pet Adoption Event at One Love





From 12 PM to 5 PM on Sunday, August 4, the Sean Casey Animal Rescue, the ASPCA and One Love Animal Hospital, at 317 Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill and a newly-opened clinic at 8209 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, will host "Summer Lovin'", a Grease-Themed pet adoption event, featuring Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and the rest of the gang.

Local Massage Parlor Sweep Nets 19


At a joint press conference today, Brooklyn District Attorney Charlie Hynes, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and City Council Member Vinnie Gentile announced the
arrest of 19 people allegedly engaged in promoting prostitution at a dozen illegal "massage
parlors" in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

The firehouse in the photo at right, at 9219 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge, looked empty and abandoned when I walked by over the weekend.

Sure enough, according to a post on the Community Board 10 website dated March 22, 2013, FDNY Engine Co. 242, "The Pride of Bay Ridge", once located at 9219 Fifth Avenue, has been moved to Engine Co. 241, at 6630 Third Avenue
