Roughly 80% of the planet's fish stocks have been nearly depleted, due primarily to overfishing. Some stocks are being fished at capacity, meaning that any further growth in demand will crash them. Others have collapsed or are in decline.
Big, predatory fish, like cod, halibut and tuna, are being fished to the brink of extinction, their numbers having plummeted by 90% since 1950.
