Maintaining Your Basic Star Exemption

The STAR program offers a partial exemption from school/property taxes on the primary residences of homeowners making under $500,000 a year. The program saved the average homeowner $700 in taxes last year.

But according to a recent report by the State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, taxpayers are being cheated out of tens of millions of dollars annually by property owners who have fraudulently
